Wesley Fuller - #1 Song

| Keith

When I first heard "#1 Song" by Wesley Fuller, I asked myself, "What is this? A new New Pornographers song?" It's got that super pop throwback sound, and if retro guitar pop is your thing, do yourself a favor and check out their latest album, Inner City Dream. Oh, and this classic rock inspired video.

P!NK- What About Us

| Kerri

We are problems that want to be solved
We are children that need to be loved
We were willin', we came when you called
But man, you fooled us, enough is enough, oh

What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
Oh, what about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
Oh, what about love? What about trust?
What about us?

P!NK keeps raising the bar for what's possible in performance. Did you see her "Beautiful Trauma" AMAs act?!? Literally dancing & doing acrobatics on the side of a 34 story building, live and without missing a note or getting out of breath! (Wanted it to be a full bonus video but can only find short clips in HD. Side note: Check out Christina Aguilera's tribute to Whitney Houston from the same awards show.) As ya know, I love her voice, her power, and what she stands for. Picked this song off her new album because when I saw her perform it on SNL a few weeks back it made me cry. At first blush, seems like a standard (especially for her) break-up song but careful listening makes me think this is more existential. I think she's either talking to a god or a government or something like that. Been a rough year in a lot of ways. Hope she inspires you like she does me.

Stars - Real Thing

| Keith
You better check yourself and back up baby
We're locking the doors
I've seen the play before but hold up
You started the war
Who told you that the feelings are laid out?
You would decide
You can't have what you can't have, that's right
Cold to survive

Back in the 80's, I went through a sophisti-phase, where I was really into polished, groovy bands like The Style Council, Ultravox and Spandau Ballet. I'm not sure I'd consider Canadian indie superband Stars to be the exact same thing, but they're pretty close. They've been doing polished, feel-good dance-pop for years and I'm so happy they're still at it. Hopefully, I'll get the chance to see them live again soon, as they're shows are up there in terms of pure fun.
