LCD Soundsystem - call the police

| Keith
It moves like a virus and enters our skin
The first sign divides us, the second is moving to Berlin
But that's not the state I'm in
The air is thin but that's not the state

Friday mystery surprise! Two new tracks from LCD Soundsystem! Both "call the police" and "american dream" have the Soundsystem sporting an eighties feel that just screams New Order, Cure and OMD at different moments. And, ok, on "call the police" maybe a bit of Simple Minds, Psychedelic Furs or even U2. Whatever, there is an unmistakable eighties vibe and it's great.

It's Friday, so today's Most Important Song is going to "call the police" and its funky dance baseline. Will there be more? I certainly hope so!

Car Seat Headrest - Unforgiving Girl

| Keith
Welcome to the Welcome Center
Make a U-Turn
My phone is freaking out
I'll lose my shit while it re-routes but
She moves and
She speaks and
She's on a chain that moves towards perfection
Baby, the effects are so good these days
If there were gears behind those big brown
Eyes, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference

Re-recording can be a bit tricky but in the case of "Unforgiving Girl - The She's Not A Single Version", Car Seat Headrest has a winner. The original, off their standout LP "Teens in Denial", is good, but I really love what has been done here. Maybe it's just the Pixes-esque vocal call-outs, I'm a sucker for those, but I'm digging it. Anyway, we needed a bit more Car Seat Headrest on here. What was Rick Ocasek thinking not letting them use "Just What I Needed"? Get with the program Rick! Car Seat Headrest is awesome.

Sin Fang - Sunbeam

| Keith
To drift and dream
When I grow up I'm going to be a sunbeam
To drift and dream
When I grow up I'm not going to be anybody

And then when I get older
I'll let you stand on my shoulder
I'll be a rock a boulder
I'll be your spirit hand holder

I usually walk to work, even in the oppressive heat of the Texas summer. I walked to work today but the heat wasn't oppressive, and the walk was pleasant. It was sunny and I think that's what got me to thinking of 'Sunbeam", a fun, silly, quirky little cut from Reykjavik's Sin Fang, AKA Sindri Már Sigrússon, founder of Seabear. Speaking of Icelandic music, Kerri and I are going to Iceland Airwaves next fall and we're excited.

And there you have it, a fun and silly write up of a fun and silly song.
