Moon Taxi - Two High

| Kerri

When you feel the world around you
Spinnin' out of control
You can find someone around you
To bring you out of the cold
But you don't ever have to hide
What you really feel inside

So put 'em up
Two high
We can walk together with our hands up in the sky
So put 'em up
Tonight
We can come together
We won't give up on the fight

It's a new single and a slightly popier new sound for Nashville quintet Moon Taxi. I'm completely distracted now, at the mention of Nashville, as we just booked our first ever visit to Music City for this September! (Of course we're there at the exact time Moon Taxi plays here, womp.)

Sarah McLachlan - Blackbird

| Kerri

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night

A beautifully hopeful song about the American Civil Rights movement, "Blackbird" was released in 1968 as part of the iconic (but aren't they all) White Album by The Beatles, and has been covered at least 28 times (in recordings, so far). As covers go, I happen to be partial to Sarah's faithful version, made for the I Am Sam soundtrack in 2002, but I haven't listened to all of them. For one of Keith's favorite Beatles songs, we can go back to 1965 for "I've Just Seen a Face"... which he posted a cover of last year.

James Vincent McMorrow - Get Low

| Keith
Heard you're getting married (Get low)
Everybody say it (Get low)
Greatest man alive (Get low)
I've been told (I could never show, I could never show)
Bought yourselves a diamond (Get low)
Finally getting paid (Get low)
Buying people's silence (Get low)
They're afraid (I could never show, I could never show)

A month or so ago Kerri and I saw James Vincent McMorrow at the Sydney Opera House. I don't think either of us were familiar with him. The venue, as you might expect, is amazing. It's majestic, beautiful and the sound is mind-blowing. As awesome as it was, James easily matched the spectacle and, despite some somewhat hilarious mishaps, seemed like he was right at home. I was equally impressed by his vocals, which I think he's most known for, and his ability to entertain and hold the attention of a crowd. Would love to see him again and I've had fun digging into his catalog.
